12 Best James Bond Theme Songs

Just as people rank the best James Bond movies, they also love to debate which theme song tops the charts.

Personally, I would put Thunderball, The Man With the Golden Gun, A View to a Kill, Live & Let Die, Skyfall, and GoldenEye at the top of my list. However, I didn’t write this list … my friend Riley did. And although I may disagree with some of the choices (looking at you, Sam Smith), who am I to argue with a James Bond fan’s opinion.

Writing’s on The Wall is a James Bond theme song by Sam Smith, that was released in 2015 for the film SPECTRE. The song received very mixed reviews, nonetheless, it won the Golden Globe Award as well as an Academy Award for the best original song. It also managed to climb to the top of the UK Singles Chart.

 

Skyfall

Adele is definitely one of the most decorated artists in the world of music. In 2012, she recorded Skyfall, which was used as the theme song for the Bond movie of the same name. They were the first duet to perform a James Bond theme song. Its popularity in 2008 led it to win the Best Original Song award at the Satellite Awards.

Die Another Day

The song Die Another Day was recorded and released by Madonna in 2002. It reached 8th in the charts in the United States and 3rd in the United Kingdom. This made it the most successful theme song of the James Bond series. It is the theme song for the Die Another Day film from the James Bond series.

GoldenEye

Back in 1995, the James Bond film GoldenEye was released and its theme song was also called GoldenEye. This was written by Bono and Edge from U2 and was performed by Tina Turner. It was released in 1995. Nicole Scherzinger covered this song in 2010 and this was used for the GoldenEye 007 video game. This is mainly because of the popularity it had gained at the time.

A View to A Kill

A View to A Kill is another spy film from the James Bond series. It features A View to A Kill by Duran Duran as its theme song. Duran Duran performed this song in 1985 although they collaborated with John Barry to write it. This song received a nomination for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song category.

For Your Eyes Only

For Your Eyes Only is the 12th James Bond movie. It features the song For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton. The songwriters for this song were Bill Conti and Mike Leeson. Easton released this song on June 19th, 1981. In addition, this song has received various nominations. For instance, it was nominated for the Best Original Song at the Academy Awards back in 1982.

Nobody Does It Better

In 1977, Carly Simon released Nobody Does it Better. This song became the theme song for The Spy Who Loved Me Bond movie. The song became so popular that it became a worldwide hit. It was also nominated for several awards. For instance, it was nominated for both Academy and Golden Globe Awards. In addition to that, it received a Grammy Awards nomination.

Live and Let Die

Live and Let Die is the theme song for the James Bond film carrying the same name. Paul McCartney wrote this song together with his wife Linda McCartney, and his band, Wings, performed it in 1973. Due to its popularity, it was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Original Song.
